Rural Access to Health Information: Training Community Health Navigators in Northern California to Expand Access to Virtual Health Information Tools California State University, Chico This project seeks to serve rural people in northern California by improving their access to medical information. We will train community health navigators (from two programs in the service region: Home Visitors and Help Me Grow) in rural remote areas on the use of MedlinePlus and other high quality, vetted, reliable health information resources. Rural Library Public Health Collection Update and Expansion Upper Skagit Library For this project, the Upper Skagit Library will be updating and diversifying our current public health collection. Our current collection is out of date and was haphazardly put together through donations, and lacks any diverse voices or identities. This award would allow us to create a collection that reflects our current community and it's health challenges, as well as allowing us to work with the community to create a collection that reflects community need.   Washington
Rural Telehealth in Public Libraries Maine Medical Center - MaineHealth With reduced access to care in rural areas, many patients are turning to telehealth for consultations or follow-up appointments. In lieu of long travel times, patients can connect with providers online. Unfortunately the lack of computer hardware and high speed internet access limits the ability of patients to use video telehealth, which in turn limits the providers’ ability to diagnose and treat them. Rural Utah Community Osteoporosis Education Noorda College Of Osteopathic Medicine Library Our project aims to provide meaningful education regarding osteoporosis as well as providing patients with the tools to find more information through high quality resources about this topic. SciStarter Activity Kit for Native American Citizen Scientists Pilot Project SciStarter Assemble a team that will collaborate to review and select a participatory science kit to enhance via new activities that will both support engagement among Native Americans and build awareness among pilot kit users on tribal cultural language and related activities. The team will be composed of a SciStarter team leader, front-end web developer, back-end web developer, a professional designer, an editor, a DEI specialist, communications team, a Region 4 representative (John Bramble or his designee), a librarian, and at least two members of Native American tribes in AZ. SciStarter Spanish Language Activity Kit Pilot Project SciStarter The purpose of this work was to create a pilot project in collaboration with educators and librarians in Spanish-speaking communities to identify a process resulting in publicly accessible health focused SciStarter activities to add to a Citizen Science Kit. Seniors Be Well at GRPL Trinity Health Saint Mary's Mercy Health Saint Mary’s Family Medicine Residency Program will partner with the Grand Rapids Public Library (GRPL) to provide a health literacy series for the seniors in our community, particularly our underserved senior populations. Both of these institutions serve people across the lifespan, are members of the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM), and focus on health literacy and underserved populations. Smart Tablet Education for Healthy Living” (STEHL) project for older adults (SAG) Northern Illinois University School of Nursing The “smart tablet education for healthy living” (STEHL) project for older adults is being created to build upon a previous project that was recently funded by the NNLM and All of Us Research grant which was successfully completed (October 2022 to April 2023). The project “noticing older adults beyond tablets,” provided smart tablets (Samsung A7) to 20 older adults living in 2 retirement homes in the DeKalb area.
