Supplemental Collection Equity Award Y2 - Springfield Public Library
Our initial award went to the Adult Non-fiction collections in both Spanish and English and the new items purchased focused on under-represented community groups as well as health topics that needed greater or updated coverage. In particular the biomedical/health graphic novel collections in both Spanish and English were vastly improved.
It is hoped that with this Supplemental Award, the vast majority of our patrons will be able to find biomedical/health information that is not only specific to their community but also at a level of biomedical literacy and in a format that is accessible to them i.e. our robust group of Teen patrons as well as the many patrons who only access our audiobooks, DVD and BluRay collections. Depending on the individual materials purchased, any DVDs and BluRays added will allow us to offer health information in a range of different languages depending on dubbing/subtitle options.
Once complete the Springfield Public Library can also reach out to biomedical/health organizations and take part in more health-specific outreach events, potentially meeting members of the community who do not currently use the library, confident we can promote the library as a reliable source of accessible health information to the community.
