Claire’s Community is comprehensive relationship violence prevention program created to teach safe and healthy relationship skills; engage and equip influential adults and peers; disrupt pathways to relationship violence; and create proactive, protective, and safe communities. This project was made possible from funding by NNLM Region 3. The project aimed to create educational programming and a website directing users to resources and learning opportunities for individuals and groups to help prevent relationship violence in communities, including classes, events, and educational presentations. MedlinePlus was used to create educational materials for the project.
Presenters:
Shannon VanLandingham is the Executive Director and Founder of #BeMoreLikeClaire. Shannon brings a lifetime of experience in leadership and non-profit volunteering. Throughout her life she has served as a trainer, facilitator, and educator, while organizing leadership programs, friends, music, big laughs, and finding the right person for the job. Working to continue her daughter's legacy of love and service is helping her find healing for her shattered heart.
Liza Gant is the Community Outreach and Social Media Coordinator. While not the founder of #BeMoreLikeClaire, Outreach Coordinator Liza Gant likes to think of herself as one of the originators of the concept. Five years her junior, Liza idolized her cousin Claire from a young age and acted as her second shadow for most of her childhood. Liza continues to be inspired by her cousin and is in her second year as a non-traditional student pursuing a degree in psychology. She plans to attend grad school and eventually work as a therapist for teens and young adults. Liza is passionate about all forms of interpersonal violence prevention and is "super jazzed" about the expansion of Claire's Community.
This presentation addresses health information resources and data and improving health literacy by including information about the NLM/NIH resource MedlinePlus.
