Do you ever use Wikipedia for health information, even though you feel like you shouldn’t? Despite widespread skepticism of its value, studies have shown that the quality of information on Wikipedia is often similar to other encyclopedias.

In this webinar you will learn about Wikipedia’s biomedical content and the standards that guide its creation, how to evaluate health articles on Wikipedia, and how to use these articles as starting points for further research. 

Kelsey Cowles, MLIS, is a Research and Instruction Librarian at the University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences Library System. Her role is focused on interprofessional education and community engagement. She is particularly interested in health literacy, misinformation, and public engagement with science and health information. She has been a Wikipedian since 2019 and is the author of several publications about Wikipedia’s health information and efforts to improve it.
