This presentation on the most recent developments of Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems will discuss the basic principles of ChatGPT and other generative AIs, provide real-time demonstrations of how to use generative AI systems, examine the historical use of AI technology, and encourage discussion about the potential costs and harms of powerful AI systems. The session will provide attendees with an encouraging environment to experiment with and learn about increasingly important AI topics and tools in the context of higher education and medical librarianship.
Michael Flierl is Associate Professor and Student Learning Librarian at The Ohio State University Libraries. His research interests include information literacy, student-centered teaching and learning environments, and student motivation. He has published on these topics in College & Research Libraries, The Journal of Academic Librarianship, Library & Information Science Research, and portal: Libraries and the Academy. Michael has recently consulted on a grant for investigating AI systems and multilateral negotiations as well as been invited to present on AI for The Ohio State University Senate and Marion Campus faculty.
