Collection Equity Award
We have a collection called “Early Family Life” that is dedicated to social, emotional, mental, and physical health of children 0-10 years of age. The collection is quite old, with some of our books dating back to the 1980s. Even if the information is still applicable, the look and feel of the books are not engaging and give the impression of a neglected collection that lacks relevant information. The collection is not only outdated but it is extremely difficult to browse. Our intention is to update the collection, particularly for current information on neurodiversity and mental health in children. In addition, we intend to improve the way the collection is organized. In order to make it more browsable, we are going to organize the books into categories such as nutrition, mental health, neurodiversity, differently abled children, death & grieving, and developmental milestones. With improved signage, easy to understand organization, new and engaging materials, and a fully weeded collection, we will provide caregivers access to information that is curated. Patron confidence in our ability to match the current needs of families will improve and demonstrate to our patrons that we are a trusted source of information.
