Coastal Center Library and Information Outreach

The following outreach program aims to enhance the quality of life and health for individuals with disabilities in South Carolina by providing access to high-quality health information and resources. The project aims to promote awareness of healthier special needs citizens and communities in our state. Our team plans to achieve this through a physical and online library that will be populated with information resources and other high quality, easy to use, and applicable online resources for individuals with disabilities and their caregivers. We will pay special attention to health issues that are of particular importance to South Carolina citizens in regional care communities. Individuals with disabilities have historically faced challenges in accessing health information and resources, which the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated. Parent and Gradian associations can play an essential role in improving individuals' access to health information and the overall well-being of their communities. This outreach program seeks to assess the information needs of individuals with disabilities, caregivers, and healthcare providers throughout South Carolina. We will specifically target health information polocies related to individuals with disabilities. Our online Library will better inform our target audience of educational efforts and aid in meeting our goal of improving access to information, enabling individuals with disabilities and caregivers to make more informed health decisions. Through educational outreach efforts, we aim to address community challenges to optimizing health and well-being through health information training targeting individuals and organizations that provide access to special needs services throughout South Carolina.
