Grant Application - Outreach

The Building Adolescent Skills in Health Literacy and Public Health Advocacy program aims to protect and improve the health of the adolescent population as it relates to the widespread misinformation surrounding diet pills, weight loss supplements, and muscle-building supplements on social media platforms popular with youth. Using a train-the-trainer approach, the program will provide adolescents with the opportunity to learn about and teach educational content to their peers on how to use digital health literacy skills to debunk baseless social media claims related to these dangerous products. Partnering with youth has the potential to amplify scientific findings and intervention approaches that currently are largely housed in clinical or public health settings not accessed by youth. Foundations of media literacy, health literacy, and content creation will be taught, incorporating the youth voice in all aspects of the program.
