Health Outreach on Respiratory Hazards and Illnesses in New York State
In an effort to expand access to reliable health information and increase community-based health literacy, the Environmental Health Project (EHP) proposes to work with several community organizations in New York State to provide information relating to the potential health effects of exposure to air pollution. To achieve this goal, we will engage community organizers and residents through EHP’s Environmental HealthWatch Model, a train-the-trainer approach designed to empower community members with public health tools and resources. With support from the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM), we will be able to include additional education and training on information available through NNLM’s MedlinePlus and PubMed about respiratory hazards and illnesses resulting from air pollution, as well as basic statistical principles and interpretation of peer reviewed publications.
