Y2 Sustainable Eating& Nutritional Literacy Express


The Sustainable Eating & Nutritional Literacyprojectseeks to address food insecurity and health literacy related to nutrition. The goals of the projectwill be accomplishedthrough educational programming and practical support throughthe extensionof community gardenstoindividual homesby providing home growing kits, especially those in areas without access to affordable fresh fruit and vegetables in North Texas.The educational materials andprograming will listfoods that can be grown in North Texas arranged byseason,the associated benefits with each food, debunkfoodhealth myths, and provide recipes and practical instructions for growing food at home with or without outdoor space.The educational content will incorporate quality health information from the National Library of Medicine (NLM),National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other reputable sources.Program participantswill build the capacityto make informed nutritional choicesand be given the tools to grow fresh, nutritious food in almost every living situation.The project materialswill be shared digitally, through in-person sessionsheld at public libraries and other community spaces, and the home growing kits will be designed with affordable and accessible materials to ensure the kitscan be sustained after initial funding.
