Collection Equity Award - Paul J. Cushing Library at Holy Names

At Holy Names University, 64% percent of the student population identify as people of color. The Paul J. Cushing Library is in the process of creating a new strategic plan that includes collection development goals specifically addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion. We know our current collection does not represent our student demographics and we want to improve and address this issue. A Collection Equity Award would support our work by providing additional funding to meet our new collection development goals. We currently have a running list of resources and materials that could further our diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, but these items are not slated for purchase at this time. Due to budget constraints, these items are more “wish list” items, items that we maybe able to purchase should we have sufficient funds at the end of the fiscal year. If we are awarded a Collection Equity Award, our plan is to purchase the items on our “wish list” with an emphasis on health/medical topics as their integral narrative theme.
