The prescription opioid awareness pilot program will enable high school students to access biomedical and health information, learn about the prevalence of this epidemic in their communities the health consequences, and steps need to reduce its impact especially on high school students. Offered as a collaborative effort, the program is an integrated in-class, student-centered, technology-driven, youth empowerment program. Ten forty-minute session will be offered once a week to create health literate public high school students able to navigate the Internet to obtain, comprehend, and understand basic functional health knowledge about prescription opioid, the danger of 103 abuse and misuse, and practice informed decision making about their health. Both qualitative and quantitative data will be collected to establish program outcomes.
