The U.S. is facing a maternal health crisis with maternal mortality rates at record levels and New Jersey has one of the widest racial disparities for both maternal and infant mortality. (Nurture New Jersey Initiative).
Life After 2 Losses is a non-profit organization with the mission to prevent reproductive & health injustices through the support and empowerment of women & families in the community. The organization received a grant from the Region 1 Medical Library to continue their mission of 1) changing the narrative surrounding pregnancy loss 2) education and raising awareness 3) advocacy efforts and 4) grief support.
This presentation will discuss their grant project to create educational programs to support Black, Indigenous, and people of color, (BIPOC) women on birth justice and health equity issues.

Vu-An Foster is the President and CEO of Life After 2 Losses, she received her Bachelor of Science in Public Health from William Paterson University and Master of Public Health in Health Systems Administration and Policy from Montclair State University. She serves as Vice Chair of the New Jersey Maternal Care Quality Collaborative (NJMCQC) and is certified in preconception peer education, mental health first aid, and nonprofit management.
This presentation addresses increasing health equity through information and the NNLM areas of interest in maternal health and medically underserved populations and the NNLM initiative environmental determinants of health.
